Brian was selected to direct and helped to co-write the script for a 1938 version of Lawrence of Arabia that was put on ice in 1938. The 96 page script script has been discovered and was republished in "Filming TE Lawrence Korda's Lost Epic and gives us a fresh interpretation of the character of TE Lawrence.

John Hill’s essay looks at film censorship employed by the Northern Ireland government following the establishment of the Irish Free State, highlighting a unique instance in British and Irish film. Focusing on the way in which Brian’s Ourselves Alone was banned in the province despite its balanced view on events and its welcomed releases throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. John Hill provides explanation for these actions of government, placing them within the context of the peculiar political arrangements following the 1920 Irish partition and the perceived heightened emotions that citizens within Northern Ireland felt. |
